KMFF - 30 Second Portraits
Marmot Pro Athlete and KMFF 2014 Headline speaker Steve McClure
I've Just got back from the Kendal Mountain Film Festival, KMFF for short! Which, for those of you who aren't "in the know" is the premier festival for the "outdoor Genre" for films and film makers in the UK. The guys over at Marrmot UK are one of the events major sponsors and for the last two years have realy jumped into the spirit of things by not only bringing some of their top sponsored athletes to do talks (Stefan Glowacz, Robert Jasper and Lucy Creamer) but also have been responsible for the "Marmot Tent"
The tent, is a tent! Erected outside the main venue and has played host to a very diverse and cultured line up. Everything from Photographer (me) and Filmaker (Ian Burton) talks, to cooking demonstrations with an outdoor twist, cooked on camping stoves. Lectures on "how to become a sponsored climber" from the editor (Jack Geldard) of the most successful climbing website in the world - UKclimbing, to meet and greet Marmots own Athletes. In the evening the chairs and tables get packed away in preference for a bar and live music, needless to say its the hottest ticket in town. It's always fun in the Marmot tent, it's a place to meet up with old friends and new aquaintences, have a drink and some food, take in a lecture, learn something new or buy a T-shirt from CAC (climbers against cancer) founder John Eliison, a man who's story is incredibly inspiring - if you ever need a hug on a cold November day Johns your man.
This year we set up a couple of flash heads and a small backdrop inside the tent. The idea was to record the people who came to visit us over the weekend. A simple set up, a simple idea - Just stand inbetween the two flashes, smile or do anything you want in front of the camera, on your own, with friends or loved ones, or even go grab one of your "outdoor heroes" and get your photo taken with them. No standing on ceremony or lengthy posing, Step in "Flash" step out, hence the 30 second portrait was born. Fun to photograph and I hope fun for those in front of the camera too. Liam Lonsdale from Marmot UK took the images away and uploaded them to their Facebook page, so if you haven't already seen them, you can check them out here as well as photos of the cooking extravaganza taken by Liam Lonsdale. Otherwise I've put a selection of the images up in a gallery on the website http://www.timglasby.com/gallery/30-second-portraits/ go see if you made it in? A big thanks to all of you who came along and had your photo taken, it was fun for me doing it, I hope it wasn't too painful for you guys! All the photos are as per taken in the camera, apart from resizing for the web.
