Kendal Mountain Film Festival

12th Nov 2012

Yes its that time of year again, Film festival time. I'm super stoked to be heading up to Kendal later this week to Shoot renowned German ice and mixed specialist Robert Jasper who will be the main attraction for the "Marmot" sponsored Friday Night spectacular. He'll be talking about his most recent adventures including his ascent of the ‘Shark’s Fin’, Monte Giordano in Tierra del Fuego's Cordillera Darwin.

From an early age Jasper started climbing near his home in the Schlüchttal and in the nearby Basle Jura of Switzerland.

His special passion is for solo climbing, his way of getting to know himself as well as discovering the beauty of the mountains. At 20 years old Jasper had soloed more than 100 of the most difficult routes in the Alps, including several first ascents. He caused a public furore in 1991 when he climbed the ‘big three’ Alpine north faces (Eiger, Matterhorn and Grandes Jorasses) in record time. In 2003 Jasper was voted the world’s most successful mixed climber by the German climbing magazine Klettern. Today, his expeditions take him to the most remote mountains in the world, including Patagonia where he completed the fastest ascent of Cerro Torre. In Alaska he climbed Denali twice, using different routes, in just four days. Jasper is a qualified mountain and ski guide, mountain guide trainer and sports teacher.

I've photographed Robert on a number of previous occasions, including the image above taken in the Llamberis Pass of North Wales in 2011 for Roberts clothing Sponsors Marmot.
